Default Paint chips on Dashboard

Does anyone have a solution to fix the chips in the plastic on the dash and around the center console shifter without taking the entire dash apart to paint it?

Do you mean the silver plastic piece that has the Cupholders in it and goes around the shifter?

I don't know how to 'touch these up' because I figure the finish will be hard to match, but that particular silver part comes out in about 2 seconds with a flathead screwdriver in the little hole that the center console lid latches in. For that part in particular, it might just be easier to take it out and replace/repaint the whole thing.

How about the silver around the vents? Is there a place to buy them or send them for plasti dip?

Sure, just send them to your garage. Seriously, this stuff is dead simple. Just take an hour out of your busy day to bust them out and paint them!

For ANYTHING on the interior of a vehicle I HIGHLY recommend letting the paint cure in a well ventilated area for no less than 72 hours prior to re-installing into the vehicle.

If you really want new ones, the part number is 8L3Z-19893-CA, try your local dealership or search on google for a retailer.

How would you strip, prep, and paint them?

  1. Light sandpaper to scuff up the chrome (it's not real chrome anyways, it scuffs up easy).
  2. Wipe with tack cloth to remove sanding debris.
  3. Clean with some kind of solvent/cleaner (I use a mild dilution of vinegar in water) to remove any residual grease/oil/contaminants that might prevent the paint from adhering
  4. Paint as you would any other item, with thin even coats.

The chrome is pealing off my vent trim. I might just be able to continue pealing it. What type of paint do you recommend for these plastic trim pieces?
