P0021 Code
Hey all, truck has been messing up again and I am at the point where I do not know where to turn without having to take the truck to a shop. Truck is pulling code P0021 (Intake Camshaft Position Timing Over-Advanced Bank 2). Rough acceleration and loss of power up hills and on interstate in higher gears, truck does not drive well at all above 70 mph, rough idling as well. During acceleration, CEL flashes. During loss of acceleration and power, some noise comes from passenger side, almost behind the passenger seat. Also another note...truck has been leaking a lot of oil, typically put in half a quart to a quart of oil after every tank of gas. Replaced VCT solenoids, all spark plugs and replaced all ignition coils to Accel Super Coils. Truck also has had its 02 sensors replaced along with the PCM. Intake air sensor also had all of its wiring done and was just recently cleaned and checked once again. I have been hoping that this is not a phaser and/or tensioner problem, but it seems like that could be the case. What should I expect and/or what could be another alternative with this before going that expensive route?
The leak is probably causing the poor performance, because as I read elsewhere in the forums, these engines run internally at negative pressure, so a leak will also pull in excess unmetered air into the engine. Fix that leak, and you might fix your performance issues.
I will pull the codes and if there is a misfire check those plugs and coils. I'll try to find that oil leak...believing it is on the front of the Bank 1 side, but it is hard to tell because oil sprays everywhere. Probably also check both VCT solenoids once again. Maybe I'll be able to find that leak while doing that.

Just a reminder
The PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) system is designed to pull engine gases into the intake where they are burned. A clogged PCV system will pressurize the crankcase and blow oil out of every crevice. I would suggest that you check and make sure none of the hoses connected to the PCV system are clogged and that the PCV system is working..
I had a PCV hose get clogged and it blew the pan gasket on I-75 at 04:00am and would loose about a quart every 25, yes 25 miles, luckily I had a case of oil with me and it allowed me to limp to a dealer about 90 miles away in Findlay, OH. I had to sit in the parking lot and wait for them to open.
