Question out with the old in with the.....

Took out the drop in bedliner that came with my truck and sold it. I'm planning on doing a sprayed in bedliner but had a question. Does anyone know if I do an over the rail sprayed in is there anyway to make the liner solid all the way across the rail? when you take off the factory bedcaps theres multiple holes in the rail where the bedcaps are held in. So when they spray it in is there anyway to make it solid so my bed doesn't look ridiculous?

They just spray right over it. But being black bed liner you don't ever notice it..

Id just leave the caps on. It would be too much work and would look weird to leave them off.

I talked to the guy at the local Line-X place. He recommended not taking off the bedrail caps, said it would look like *****.

i did this to my truck. i just have two tips. do more prep. ,cleaning and sanding, than you think you will need. and also do more coats of liner than you tink you will need. if not it will fade and chip really bad (happened to my friends truck)

Thanks for the input guys decided I'm gonna get it done sprayed in not rolled on as muddy mallard suggested however I am going to leave the caps on the rails and tailgate since they're mounted flush with the truck it would look like crap if i pulled them off so I'm leaving them on and retouching them with black plastic restore

My old man has a 97 that he had the spray in liner put on. It had the rail caps on it and they just put a really thick layer over the rail and top of the tailgate to make it flush and the extra thick layers covered up any holes. I think that made it look a lot better than if you leave the caps on.

The 97 doesn't have the same kind of bedrail caps though. The 04 and ups have a kind of interconnecting bedrail cap. Just my $0.02.

In my experience, the plastic caps are much more useful than if you were to spray there. They are very useful to slide things in and out of the bed smoothly and without doing damage. If you dont use the bed to load and unload things very often, thats another story. If you dont mind the sticky rails and can fill them up to be flush with the rest of the body, it could be cool. For me, its more of a utilitarian thing. Whatever you do, Im sure it will look good. Let us know how it goes - good luck.
