Default Opinions about adding resistor to IAT sensor

Ok, I bought one of those +20MPG , +10HP resistors for the IAT sensor from EBAY. Yeah I know, pretty stupid but at least I didnt spend alot. I got it for $2.00. As I look at how this is installed, I dont think I'm getting into that. The IAT is built in with the mass air flow sensor and it involves splicing wires, Not so sure about messing with it. My truck is a 2006 XLT 4.6L so that is why I am looking for a little more umph. Plus I am only averaging 9.5 mpg!!! Ouch. So I am looking for any opinions you all may have Thanks, Joe

I hate to be the bearer of bad news...but you screwed up.

You spent $20 for $.10 resistor. Rather than explain why you shouldn't do it (and maybe why you should spend your money on new plugs, cleaning your throttle body, or your MAF, replacing your O2 sensors, etc or a tuner)....

no problem, There were alot on there for $20 but I wasn't about to do that. So are the throttle body spacers also a joke? What can I do to give it a little more umph?

I just reread your original post. You're getting under 10 MPG consistently? Something is wrong.

Tuner with custom tunes will give you the most hp/tq gains (short of a super charger).

Gryphon, SCT or the best options for custom tunes.

Don't feel too bad man. One of those little resistors was the very first thing I ever purchased off ebay. I never used it but I was just testing the ebay waters. Haha. TB spacers are not garbage from what I have been seeing. My buddy recently installed one on his Scion xB and his fuel economy jumped... alot. IIRC, he noticed about a 6mpg increase. They are garbage and a waste of money for performance but for fuel efficiency, there might be something there for ya. I am actually going to purchase one for my 4.6L too.

And yes, if you are getting 9.5 consistantly, there is something wrong. I have a 2002 Supercrew 4x4 with the 4.6 and I average 13.2mpg.

Yeah, the last 5 fill ups I have calculated mpg and it is a consistant 9.5, but I was just reading on the mpg topic in crashtec and it said something about the extreme cold air causing the lower mpg
