Default oil pump replacement

Anyone have any basic instructions to this, iv heard its fairly simple, just some tips and tricks would be nice! replacing because i seem to have a clank right on start up down there about every 4 starts and my dash is reading low oil pressure, so figured since i can get the pump for $160 i might as well start there before taking it to the Stealership and paying them $100 to tell me the same !

Very unlikely an oil pump will fix the problem. its very rare to see an oil pump failure since it is the first part of the engine to really see any oil. its not the oil pump that creates the pressure its the clearances in the engine that create the pressure an oil pump just provides the volume of oil. sounds like you have a problem other then just the oil pump

No leaks anywhere and no sludge at all! There may be something else causing the low oil pressure but for now I want to get rid of the clank down there on start up, I am fairly certain that is where it is coming from have had people under there listening! So anyone have any basic instructions?

From all the Googling, it's seems pretty striaght forward. I haven't had to replace an oil pump for a 5.4L Ford Modular engine. The last oil pump I replaced was on my old '68 GTO.

The Generic Instructions:

Drain oil

Remove oil pan

Install oil pan plug

Clean oil pan, clean mating edges of pan and bottom of block

Remove oil pump.

Install new oil pump.

Gasket oil pan.

Bolt Oil pan back onto block. Dont tighten one bolt all they way then go to the next.
Get them all "hand" tight. Then tighten them in a criss-cross pattern. Keeps the gasket even. This is what I was taught in auto-class 18 years ago :O

If you Google, there is a member on f150online that has done this exact thing. Since it's the other forum...not sure I'm allow to add link.

Good Luck.

A lot these trucks have a rattle at some point. My rattles on start up when it's cold.... Have you tested oil pressure with a gauge, to verify the pressure is low?
The guy above is right, the pump doesn't make pressure, it's your main and rod bearings primarily.

Rattle on startup is timing chain tensioners broken. Common also on the mod motors. This needs to be fixed soon. The chain will wear through the cover.
