oil leak help

i have attached an actual pic of my engine, but its kind of hard to see
i dont know its oil, but it def is dark.

finally got a better picture
also oil is obviously on the face of the alternator and appears to be on the belt and the pulley too

Just a shot in the dark here, but it may be that your timing chain has worn a hole in the timing cover. Do you have noise on startup? Like I said, just a shot in the dark here. It could also be the Timing cover gasket.

When I pulled my cover, I found it had a hairline crack in that exact location.

the truck does have 237k
if i pull the alternator, would the crack or hole be visible?

turns out the crank is moving around causing the seal to leak
whats the most cost effective engine replacement? ford is $8500 currently. it will be paid through a third party warranty.
