Oil change
Ok so I usually get my oil change done by my mechanic but have been wanting to do my own so now I am. I need to know what the best oil is to use, I am not going to use the recommended stuff and I was thinking royal purple. What do you guys think I have an 2008 4.6 with about 117000 miles
Why are you not going to use the recommended stuff that the manufacture of the vehicle suggest you use?
Motorcraft Syn Blend and Motorcraft Filters are the ONLY thing my truck will ever see.

I use Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 5W-something. lol. Forget whether I put in 20 or 30. I use a Motorcraft filter these days though because they're just so cheap and readily available at Wally World. Spin my *** around in the aisle and there's my erl.
EDIT: It's 5W-30 Mobil 1 Full Synthetic.

Since you have a 4.6L I will ask you about something I posted on another thread: Just after an oil change my 4.6 uses about a quart of oil, about 500 miles, but after that it is good until the next oil change. Have you had that happen to you?
I use the Motorcraft 5W20 syn blend by the way and change the oil at 3K.

6 quarts, that is what the manual says and is what I am charged. As soon as I get it changed I check the level and it reads good, just seems to "use" a little shortly after and I wanted to see if anyone else noticed this phenomenon. On the bright side I drove the heck out of it this weekend, over 500 miles, and it did not use any appreciable amount.
