Plus having offset wheels definitely help sling the mud up all over your truck. Love gettin mine muddy but being black it a bitch to get clean without all the haze scratching the mud does

2WDs are fine for off-road (think about all the PreRunners out there), since most OHV on fire trails and access roads. I truly enjoy wheeling my truck and Jeep, but I have no love for rock crawling, so I'll be the first to acknowledge that a 2WD can do 90% of the trails and stuff that I do; barring some very low traction scenarios involving snow or mud.

I have a 6" lift and I readily admit that it's largely cosmetic (for show/looks); seldom coming across situations that couldn't be overcome with a 2" level and some 32s/33s. It sounds like you're having fun and that's all that matters and like others have written - tires and driver input make a huge difference.
