a good way to check your alternator is to take the positive battery cable off while your truck is running and if it stays runnig your alternator while be fine under a load unless u have a lot of off road lights. when it comes to your runnig lean it could be a numerous of things i doubt your alternator would cause that but ive seen stranger things

sounds like a good way to cause damage to the pcm or any other electronic equipment that would be sensitive to any power spikes/fluctuations. the battery absorbs those normally.

I took your guys' advice, as well as replaced the fuel filter. Turns out they should be switched out every 15000 miles - good to know. Seems to be all good. Thanks again for all your help.
