Finally did it, very easy took all of 20 min. Spent more time finding bulbs(thanks NAPA) though there much cheaper on line. If it goes out again I'll order the LED replacement. Can get to lamp without disconnecting dash connectors at top, I just un-clipped the Auto trans indicator (I have the column mounted shifter)and flipped up, Metal U bracket does not need to come off. I am kicking myself now for living with it for 6 months!

Default Thank You!

I know this is an older thread, but this still applies. Ya'll rock!!!!

Saved me a bundle! I even called two Ford Dealers... as I was "curious" to see what they would say etc...

Verdict, Dealer "A", said, entire instrument cluster would need to be replaced, and for my '04 FX4, cost be would be approx. $830.00 bucks!!!!!
Stated you could not replace just the bulb, I even pushed with the old "Are you sure, seems strange" etc... nope, gotta replace the cluster.

Dealer "B", thought "maybe" the bulb could be replaced, but would cost around "300.00" bucks as the entire dashboard would have to be tore up... seriously????

Ok anyways, I will be calling service managers to help enlighten their team... perhaps they had no clue etc.

Bottom line, took me 25 mins, as per your instructions and bingo, works like a charm now!!!

Thanks for saving me some bucks, maybe I can do the same for the next guy/gal by talking to some of the dealers here.

Another member thankful for this thread that's still useful towards the end of 2015. I suspect, as this series of F150s grow older, more DIY owners will find this thread.

Just did this last night, so easy and really doesn't take much time and not complicated at all. Thankful for this thread. I don't think you need to remove the U shaped plate either. Bulb #37
