Before you replace it, look on the outside of the frame under the drivers door and there is a plastic splash guard "protecting" a couple of wiring harnesses. remove it and see how much wet gravel is collected inside of it. Mine was full to the top and one of those wire harnesses goes directly to the FPDM! Really I was shocked by how much wet soil and gravel was in there, probably weighed about 8 pounds!
I will do that, I have driven a lot on wet muddy roads and have played just a little in the mudd with her.

That thing is not a protecting anything it collects crap, holy cow there is a lot of rocks and dirt in there. Well might have found a problem there.

I know, right? I had like 10 lbs of road gravel in there and the only reason I took it off was to relieve the fuel pressure in the lines to change my fuel filter! I've been meening to bend some sheet metal to make a cap for it.
