Is this normal??
I just bought an 07 f150 fx4!! When I am in overdrive and going about 50-60 mph and I hit a pot hole or a larger bump in the road it seems that it down shifts a gear and the rpms go up 100, and hang there for a few seconds then go back down!! You can't feel it shift, just hear it in the exhaust and can see the rpm's jump!! Any idea's? Or is this normal?? I had a previos 07 f150 but it was 2wd and I don't remember it doing this, unless I never noticed becaused the exhaust is a little louder on the fx4!!
Thanks Jesse!!

I have an 07' FX4 SCrew that does the same thing; downshifts out of overdrive sometimes when I hit a bump, pothole, etc. I believe the cause for this is that the rear tires lose contact with the pavement for a split second (depending on the severity of the bump) so load on the transmission is lost, the tires "slip", and the transmission downshifts in response.
I bought the truck with 32k, had the transmission serviced at 58k, I'm at 62k right now and it's always done this. It may have to do with the stiffer FX4 shocks causing the rear axle to "bounce" a certain way and thus lose traction on both wheels simultaneously. Still, seems like a pretty sensitive transmission to respond so quickly to a load loss.
Anyway, I haven't had any problems with the drivetrain over 30k miles so it doesn't concern me that much.

I don't believe the tires/or tire is coming off the ground!! The bumps or pot holes are not that big!! And if it was not for the change in sound of the exhaust I don't believe I would have noticed it!! Im confused!!

I would just kind of watch it. There is a rpm range that it will want to shift down. You may have just been right on the edge of it and when it hit the bump may have been enough to cause it to shift down. Just watch and see if it only does it at a particular speed. I would say that is what it is. If it does it all over the rpm range I would have it looked at. May be a tranny issue.
Yeah it could just be kicking in and out of overdrive. That is common if you are at the right rpm range. That is why they tell you not to pull in overdrive because of the constant shifting up and down. If you are at the right rpm and the condidtions are just right it could make it kick down.
