Default No reverse

Hey everyone.
Have a problem with our 2008 Ford f150 4x4 automatic.
The wife parked, then put in reverse heard a loud bang and now the engine will only rev up in reverse.
Still goes forward. Apparently our warranty ended 300 miles back wouldnt you know....
Any suggestion on how to fix myself, or what it would cost to have a mechanic do the work would be appreciated very much.

Same exact thing happened to me this week. Parked on a slight decline, put in reverse, heard a loud clunk, and no more reverse. Haven't tried to move it forward yet.

Will follow up as I figure out what to do.

I had this happen with my Explorer a long time ago. I was told by the transmission guys that reverse is common in being the first to go. djfllmn is right, you need a transmission job.
