Default New owner... need help!

Here's my situation... I recently purchased an '05 screw 4.6 and thought it was a little sluggish. I figured that was just the 4.6. I then put 33's w/ a leveling kit and went on my way. I just drove my buddy's '07 screw 4.6 and the front end torque is unreal compared to mine. His is stock, as far as he knows (2nd owner) nothing has been done. Now at first I would have just figured it's cause I have bigger tires, but I remember when I test drove it that it didn't have that much get up and go.

I took it in the the ford dealer (prior to me driving my friends) and they mentioned I needed a tranny flush. The truck has 55K and I have no idea what the previous owner has done as far as maintenance. I'm going to a local guy to do the flush, but other than that, any ideas on what might be the problem? It does have and after market intake, AFE Brute Force, that was on it when I purchased it.

I must say I love the truck regardless, but the driving between the two was night and day. His throttle was touchy, even when you are going in reverse it was difficult to just slowly back up.. it just jumps back! Thanks for any help!!

Couple thoughts...

What gears do you have versus your buddies? If you have 3.31 or 3.55 and he has 3.73, his will feel more powerful down low. Especially now that you have larger tires versus his stockers.

What do you mean by "front end torque?" Are you driving in 4WD? Otherwise if only 2WD, you'd feel all your power out back.

Based on the info provided, I could only say that the tire size and gears are most likely the biggest differences of course. Maybe the type of gas, as I know my throttle feel is slightly different dependent upon where I buy my gas.

Will think about this more and get back to you.

unhook the battery for 30mins. this will cause the CPU to reset everything to factory specs. mainly for the TPS (throttle position) to go back to factory setting, and not whatever its "learned" to do.

Good thought, totally spaced that out. Let the truck relearn your driving style and see if that helps at all.

Same here.. Mine has 3.73 gears with 2.5 AS and 35 inch tires.. It's not skipping a beat.. If I get lazy and use shell or any one of those side 7/11 stores then my truck will make you pay for it for the next 2 or 3 fill ups.. I only use BP.. It cost more but i dont have a have a sick sluggish truck afterwards..

Try the basics.... Oil change and transmission flush.. The person before you probably drove the **** out of it and didnt take care of it..

Damn you!

I used to only run BP in my vehicles. Then around 2006/2007, they removed all BP's from the Denver Metro area. Which did cost more, but gave the best mpg and overall performance from my vehicles when compared to other stations gas. Now I'm stuck running with Shell or Conoco/Phillips as the best stations in town.

Sucks!! The gas is great!! Wish they'd drop down to normal prices to help the gas guzzlers out a bit.. .30 cents is not alot but it sure makes a big difference at the pump as i pass by a 7/11 that is practically giving gas away..

Thanks guys, I'll give that a shot. Front end torque, was poor choice of words. I meant torque in general. Any ideas on how I find out which gears I got?

do a search (upper right corner) theres a page somewhere that lists the codes (located in the door jam) for the gears
