Default New Guy be nice please :-)

Good Afternoon.

I just bought a 2007 F150 over the weekend. Ive been looking at them for ten years now and finally did it.

I saw a F150 with the radio for lack of a better word from a Lincoln I think. He had the GPS, Sirius and all the other controls on the screen. It wasn't the Sync because my mom has the Sync in her car and this was a GPS Nav Screen like in an Acura or Lexus. I know they come in Navigators and such.

How would I go about installing one in my truck?

I apologise if this question has been asked before I didn't have much luck searching.

Welcome to the site and congrats on finally getting your Ford!! I too waited along time to finally get mine. I'm not an expert on radio installs but you'll find quite a few on this site. Try checking out the how too section and the aftermarket section. Lots of posts in there to get you started.

Doing more research I found the new system on the 09 is called a sirius travel link. Its on the Lincoln MKS and the 09 F150's. So the question is can I find one at a reasonable price and how difficult is the install? I'm not terrible with technical things but I'm certainly not great at it either.

Thank you for the welcome. Any other good easy upgrades come to mind for a rookie like myself?

you might be better off (cost wise) with an after market unit with all of the same features.

check out www.crutchfield.com and give them a call if you have any questions, they always know their stuff, and more than willing to help ya out.

Welcome to the site!!!

Unfortunately you won't be able to get the SYNC system in your truck. I had the opportunity to take apart my friend's Fusion and the SYNC system is wired into the whole dash and into all the speakers. I LOVE the SYNC system and all the features of it but converting it over to fit our F150's would be a PITA.

You can however install the Lincoln nav system into your F150 but to be honest I think it would be ALOT cheaper to go aftermarket. The OEM nav system from Lincoln will run you about $2k and up but a good Kenwood or Pioneer nav system will only run you about $1000-$1500 from www.Crutchfield.com

And as far as installation goes....I installed my in-dash tv/dvd player in about 45 minutes. The install isn't hard at all. I'll be more than happy to walk you through it if you decide to do it yourself.

I will definitely check into an aftermarket system. I also need to look into the Sirius travel ready. It seems as if this is the system they are putting into the new F150's for 2009. Do you know anything about this at all?

The sync system is very nice. My only complaint with the Focus and sync is that the volume is weak. Other than that very nice.

Don't forget that the navagation systems require an antenna. Just installing a head unit equipped with a NAV system that fits into the dash won't nessesarily cut it. The navigation requres that it syncs with at least 3 satiliite signals in the sky. Vehicles that come with the NAV option will have an antenna built into the outer vehicle shell.

The aftermarket head units that come with a NAV unit built in come with an antenna that you mount to the lower center of your windshield glass. This could be done with a stock unit, provided you can buy an antenna that plugs into the stock head units connector.

A call to Crutchfield and talking to one of their techs would be your best bet should you pursue the stock arrangement.

I too vote the aftermarket setup for cost reasons. Besides, you can always remove the aftermarket setup and transfer this costly option into your next ride....just keep the stock head unit.
