need wheel education
i took my 06 screw 4wd to tire shop today to check a vibration in the rear. they balanced tire and said the rim had a slight wobble(warped). i've got 285 70 17 bfg at's on 17x9 factory chrome wheels. i think every truck i've ever had had a warped rim or two and i've always had steel/chrome or factory wheels. i was considering upgrading to some aftermarket wheels in the near future and i need to be educated on different wheel types,i.e. machined, polished, chrome etc. what are the pros and cons of all and am i bound to 17" or could i go bigger without major mods?
Hope this helps and not to late. I just joined this site.
You can do 17" + all the way till 24" with proper offset with no mods to the truck.
Polished wheels take time and work. they need to be constantly cleaned and polished out other wise you tend to get a milky white finish showing on wheels. Most comapnies do not have warranties on this type of finish or i have seen 90 day warranties. Unfortunatly there are not to many companies who carry polished wheels in our bolt patterns and offsets.
Chrome are nice, they show well and grab attention. However again need regular cleaning. Do not recomend running in winter as salt brine etc.. will cause pitting on wheels and most manufacters do not cover this under their warranties.
Machined/Painted finishes. Most popular as they are easy to keep clean and run year round. They tend to have the good warranties through reputable companies.
In the end its all customer preference and what you like and your intentions for your f-150
