Question Need help figuring out what this is.

Hi,
I was wiring a push-button switch for my air horn on my 2004 F-150, and while I was under the dash I came across a small red box with a flashing LED. It looks like it's an Xpresskit product, model PKFM (XD04). I did some research on it, and it looks like it's some kind of aftermarket security/remote start unit. I would like to know if anyone knows what to do with something like this? I did not get any keyfobs with the truck, (I'm planning on buying a keyfob eventually) only one programmed key. So is there anything I can do with this little flashing box?

The front of the pickup is to the left in this picture.

I found that there is an Avistart 4103 Remote start unit under the dash as well. It looks like the remote start unit is wired to the Xpresskit box with the flashing LED. If I just got a remote for the Avistart unit, could it be re-programmed to work with the remote start unit?

I have a remote start on mine and I have something that looks similar to that under my dash. Do you have what looks like a silver tube about the size if a AA battery attached to the underside of your hood? Its around the hinge on the driver side with one wire coming from it.

I've never noticed one, but I'll have to take a look and see if I find anything.
Is it possible that silver tube of yours is the antennae for you remote start unit? Mine has a black thing on a long cable that was strung out across one side of my dash to the other.

It looks like this. It's roughly the size of a AA battery as well.

Might mine is some sort of sensor that won't allow the truck to start remotely with the hood up.

So it won't remotely start with the hood up? That's interesting.

Those must be safety features. lol
Anyway, I ordered a keyfob for my truck from ebay for $18, whereas a remote for the Avistart costs about $55, I think I'll be fine without remote start, hell I'm happy just having keyless entry. In fact it will be the first vehicle I've owned with keyless entry.

I can see where that would be very handy to have my truck all nice and warm by the time I got to it on those -10F days we get in Nebraska sometimes.
I may have to look around and see if I can find a remote cheaper than $50. Ha!
