Default Navigation installation

I have a 2008 F150 XLT SuperCrew. It came with the basic single disc radio system. I just purchased a used factory navigation system AVIC XD1207DF, it fits perfectly and the plugs match, but when I power it up it shows the Ford symbol and that is it, it won't respond to any buttons I push. Does anyone know why this is and how I can fix it. The back of the system has a place for three plugs but my truck only has two, and I don't have a GPS antenna yet, could either of these be causing the problem? Also does anyone know the part number of the GPS antenna that matches this radio so that I can find one?

The third plug is for the audiophile sub.

The audiophile is the factory subwoofer that mounts under a back seat (extend cabs).

No, you do not need it for your nav system to work. The largest plug is the power, speaker, ground, illumination plug. The second plug is for an audiophile, and the third plug is for the "roof console" DVD player. You aparently have at least one of the two optional radio accessories.

Perhaps the GPS is attempting to locate 3 satilite signals (GPS needs 3 out of 6 (I think there are still 6 GPS satilites out there)) to work, and is therefore "stuck" in the FORD screen trying to locate them. Get a GPS antenna and plug it in. You're going to need one anyhow.

I agree with Bucko get the antenna. He is correct in that you need 3 GPS signals to triangulate your position and let you know where you are. Good Luck!

Without installing the audiophile sub, your system may sound a little on the tinny side. The mids/highs are high passed at 80hz with the audiophile head.

I'm guessing that is what his second plug is...most do not have the overhead DVD player Option; this would be the third plug. A rare option, as I've only seen one King Ranch with the option.

So is the sirus sat radio antenna the same as needed for the navigation system?

I have a 6 disc factory with sirus and want to drop in a used nav OEM unit. Am I good to go with the unit, disc?

I also understand that if the unit comes from any ford product but an F150, I need to have the dealer program it for my steering wheel controls, etc.

Did you get your unit to work? I just bought an 08SCEW with the same standard stereo system and want to make the same exchange. Where did you locate the unit and have you resolved the problem? Where did you get the Nav Antenna?
