Default Muffler removal

Hey guys i recently just purchased a roush off road exhaust for my 2005 ford f150 4.6l. It sounded great but wasn't loud enough so i decided to take the muffler off to see how straight pipes sound. Overall i like the sound better but i want to keep the dual exit from the roush exhaust. I was looking to replace the muffler with a Magna flow Y pipe. The thing is i don't understand what size i need. I have a 3" enterance into the muffler and a 2.25" out the back off it. I'
d like the single side to go over the 3" pipe and the dual exit to go into pipes. i dont want to get a 3" Y pipe and have it not go over or in the exhaust. Help APPRECHIATED!

Sounds to me like you will need a reducer, I have no clue if you can find this aftermarket (other than the muffler itself, which you might want to hollow out if possible). If I understand you correctly, you have a 3 inch pipe and then 2 2.25 inch pipes and want to connect them.

yeah i have been looking all over for just a plain piece of pipe to connect them with but if i want it to go over a 3" pipe does that mean i need a 3 1/4 and for the duals its 2.25 and i want it to go in so i need 2"? or when they sell those are the pieces made to fit that size like when it says 2.25in. Dual/3in. Single. does that mean it will fit on those size tubes?

That's right you want to get a single 3" to dual 2 1/4" and the piece that you purchace will be flared to fit around your existing pipes. If you go to a local muffler shop I'm sure they would have it and probably install it for dirt cheap.

I apologize if this is off topic a bit but is it legal to run w/o a muffler? I know removing the cats violates federal emmision laws, but can I remove just the muffler and pipes afterwards and still remain legal?

depends on local laws... the muffler is only to muffle the sound of the engine Edit: Exhaust not engine
