I have an 04 5.4 and just last week installed an Edge CS. I have a K&N CAI and flomasters. I ran it in power level 1 (trans only) for 250 mile trip and and had about half mpg gain. But apparently with a CAI you can run lean.

Bill from powerhungryperformance is writing me custom programming. For 87 octane towing and 87 octane mileage. He recommended I run in program 2 (towing) until I receive the custom programs as level 2 runs richer.

From all I've read, and I've read a lot; most people with our engines , if highly maintained, see a 1 to 1.5mpg improvement. That is with a custom tune. The claim is 1 to 3 but everyone I've heard from is a solid 1 to 1.5.

I was getting 13.8 mixed ... Hilly areas and I drive 75/78 mph on highway. Moving to 14.5 to 15mpg is what I really want the tuner for. Pays for its self in 20k miles or so.

My custom tunes should be in soon and I'll post good or bad results.

Like the hundreds of past posts on this subject of MPG and the '04 to '08 Ford trucks, there just isn't much you can do to improve. Ford realized this and came out with the new, recent engine lineup. The 5.4 has good torque, but a lousy mileage reputation.

As far as the leveling kit and 33 inch tires, will that effect my speedometer and MPG's? If so, where do I go to get that recalibrated?

Try the Ford place or spend the 400+ bucks on a tuner or a programmer to program the new change...

And you can see if your hubs are stuck by having someone drive forwards and backwards and seeing if your cv shafts move or not.

Gears are a big difference too. I average 14.5 - 15.5 with 34.1 tires, Edge, and drop K&N...but for SOME reason previous owner wanted 3:55 gears. I bought the truck with the assumption they had 3:73.

Also, all scheduled maintenance has been done and truck has 56k miles on it if that helps
The dealer can re-calibrate it or a programmer also can. That will be a good start to getting an accurate number.

I get around 10-12 with my 04 5.4l. The only thing I have is wheels which are 18s with a -12mm offset and a Roush exhaust. I don't really drive my car around like a race are either and really only go about 70mph on the highway. I feel like I should be getting a bit better mileage, but that's just me.
