Your truck sounds sick man! Im actually impressed you only get a few MPG's less than my stock ride 5.4.

Agree with OKAY. Your mpg is really not that bad. My s331 barely gets over that and it's running street tires.

I love it when everyone always says, "why did you lift your truck in the first place." It makes me want to laugh at them every time!

Dana axles you said? Did you do a front end conversion?

Came to ask this, I want to see that straight axle swap. Post some pictures

You're asking about gears so I guess you're still running your stock ratio...but then you said you had the dana axles so why didn't you re-gear then? Maybe you bought the truck with this mod already on it. A set of 4.10s should help your city mileage a bit but the change won't be drastic.

Because you're a young-in, I'll explain in an overly simplistic fashion why your truck is getting poor gas mileage. (For the record, my 04 5.4 4x4 screw which is mostly stock gets 12mpg city so you're not doing all that bad). Your truck takes energy to move. This energy comes from the combustion of gasoline where it's potential energy is detonated to create kinetic energy. The greater an object's mass, the more energy it takes to move it. You added 35s and I'm going to guess a set of rims too. These tires and rims weigh far more than the stockers, this additional mass requires addition energy and more energy=more fuel to rotate. Have you upgraded your brakes? You should if you haven't already. Next, you added a 6'' lift. The lift increases your aerodynamic drag, which increases the amount of energy needed to move your vehicle. Even in stock form, an f-150 has the aerodynamic properties of a brick.

No amount of magical doo-hickies is going to overcome the simple physics of the vehicle you are driving. Throttle body spacers, Tornados, bed covers, tailgate down CAI etc, they won't do crap for mileage (noticeably anyways). They may generate a placebo effect where you subconsciously drive more conservatively, but that's all in your right foot. Think about it this way: if Ford could squeak an extra 2mpg out of their trucks by adding some minor bolt on mods, they would come from the factory like that. In mass production, it would cost very little and give Ford a huge competitive advantage over Dodge and Chevy.

So to answer your question: no. Enjoy that truck before you have big-boy obligations and no real disposable income.

gearing, e-fans, under drive pulley are really the only bolt on options for saving a few dollars (after they've paid for themselves, of course)

I would have been lucky to even have a car when I was 17. After I joined the Air Force my parents gave me their '93 Subaru Station wagon and the repair bill. I was thrilled to have that. Seeing as how I have a Jeep on '35s with 4.88 gearing and my F150, I still have that subaru strickly for gas comsumption. Like posted earlier, buy a cheap car and bring out the toy to impress the ladies.

Which they wont anytime soon. I would say custom tuning is a more cost efficient mod.

Take off the lift, sell it and sell the big tires. That should give you plenty of gas money for a while plus you will get better mileage at stock height with stock tires.

Consider yourself lucky to get that with what you have. I get 11 out of mine and I have no lift and 33's!
