Default mpg display

Is there a way to add the mpg display to an 08 fx4. My buddy just had to add a switch to his 11 toyota. Is it this easy for us to?

Check out a scangauge. I think I paid about $100 or so for it. It also does MUCH more than just MPG. It's "read only" though, that is, you can't change your computer settings. I put one in my truck, you can see it here below the radio:

I second the Scanguage, I have one in my ranger and its great. The extra gauges are a great thing to have.

Also another route to go would be to get a programmer like an edge evo. They can display a whole bunch of different parameters, MPG included, with the added benefit of being able to tune different aspects of your truck. They are considerably more though. Mine was $350.

I have an edge cs and the mpg average reads around 20 mpg which is about 7 mpg too high. Is the scan gauge more accurate?

The edge in my f150 reads about 1.5 mpg higher than when I hand calculate it but the dash display reads typically 1.5 less than hand calculations so nothing is really as or more accurate than hand calculating. I really like the instant mpg readings, even though I know the numbers showing aren't the exact mpg I'm getting at that moment but I can judge what throttle input and RPM's do in relationship to the higher or lower numbers on the display.

It plugs in to the computer port thingy (technical term) below the steering wheel. It comes with a right angle cable so it comes out of the port nicely and doesn't get in the way.
