Default Most common things to break when mudding

We have a lil thing called mudfest down here and I'm hoping to check it out... I wouldn't go to crazy but just curious what's the weak links under these conditions? Main thing that comes to mind for me is the cv's and the IFS in general

Really depends on your setup. Stock and the first thing to break will be traction.

Whenever I go through mud my biggest fear is water seeping into the diffs, trans, and oil pan. Other than that I think bearings will go bad quick if they get mud in them. And Unless you're jumping your truck or going over bumps really fast and hard I wouldn't worry about the ifs to much.

I have seen a guy rev too high going through mud- just steadily bouncing off the rev limiter and mess up his motor. But really like the other guy said water in the diff is the main thing I would worry about- do guys ever do diff breathers on these trucks? Other than that I don't worry just give it a good pressure washing underneath no later than the next day.

I've put my '97 through some NASTY stuff. Its had water in the headlights and cab it was in so deep. As long as you don't do something absolutely retarded and clean it up the next day or so, it should be fine. I drove my '97 through some nasty stuff a few weeks ago and never did wash it. Like I said, just be reasonable with what you do, don't bounce it off the rev limiters for 10 minutes and don't jump it or see if it can swim you'll be fine. Have fun!

mud is really one of the safest things you can offroad in. that is as long as the mud pit is a pretty even surface at the bottom. the worst thing i did in the mud was get it in the bead of my tire and it caused a flat.
