Default The most broken F150

I have an 04 F150 Fx4. 226000 miles on it. A rebuilt engine though. Currently it does fire up after a good long charge on the battery. I had a dealership do a $400 diagnostics on it. The list of issues wrong with it...
1. AC compressor
2. Alternator
3. Power steering pump
4. Steering rack
5. Pass ball joint
6. Coil packs
7. Coolant flush
8. Fuel filter
9. Oil filter and change
10. Battery
11. All 4 brake pads and rotors. (calipers are severely rusted too)
12. Headlight assemblies need replaced

That's about $3000 worth of repairs.

Now I have access to a full garage myself with a lift and all the tools. Local mom & pop shops all said to take this to a dealership for repairs. I am very mechanically inclined and have three expert mechanics with a combined 50 years experience as a resource. Should I attempt the repairs myself or drop 3 stacks to a dealership? Only downside of doing it myself is that I'd work on it about 2 hours a day after work.

First of all, never trust your truck to a dealership for repairs. Ever. Use a reputable local shop.

I can't really comment on the rest, just wanted to make sure you didn't trust your truck to a dealership mechanic.

I would do most of that myself. Would take you all of 6 hours work time to get most of that list done

I literally went to three local shops with 1-2 employees, a monro muffler, a pep boys, and a firestone car center. All said the EXACT same thing. Take it to a dealership. No idea why they wouldn't touch it since that is all they said.

6 hours seems a little optimistic.

Took Midas 16 days to do my power steering pump. Just figured id throw that out there.
I went to attempt it at home but it's a PITA to get at.

Yeah that's why I haven't done anything to it. The V8 on my car is a lot easier to work on compared to the 5.4. But wouldn't having it at a proper garage make things easier?

I'd do most of it myself and take it somewhere for the stuff you don't have time/feel comfortable doing. If its an extra vehicle and not your DD, then you have all the time int he world to work on it. I don't see $3k in repairs there but if the dealership quoted you that, that would explain the prices. Take it to an independent shop and it will cost half that.....6-11 are routine maintenance anyway that you can do in a driveway.
