There is a downside to just stuffing a snail (turbo) under your cab. It's gonna be open to most elements... I don't currently have a turbo under my truck, but if I did, I would likely fab up some skid plates to deflect rocks dirt and moisture if i thought it was too exposed. I would also either run the intake up as high and tight to the cab as possible, or just run it to the engine bay..
Aside from the intake filter being the most vulnerable part of a turbo, you can basically just treat it like a fancy exhaust pipe. Turbos can take quite a beating, so there is no real need to shy away from this location, especially if your just looking for practical, daily driver boost.
I would probably still hit big puddles and snow drifts with it. But I probably wouldn't cross any rivers unless I silicone dipped the connections on my scavenge pump for the the oiling system, and had my intake snorkeled up to my roof line... But yeah, I like my truck too much to put it in a position where it's gonna be submerged in water, regardless of a turbo.
Unless its a zombie apocalypse scenario, cause at that point I just wouldn't give a Fu[k! LoL!
