Default Model Identification

I purchased a 2008 F150 for my son two years ago. I was told that it was an STX model but had no sticker. I didn't care either way. Truck had some mods on it; Aftermarket Exhaust, Cold air intake, 2" lift, 20" Wheels, Leather Seats, Window Vent Shades.... Anyway, I went to trade it in and they tried to lowball me on the trade value. They said according to Vin# it is an XL model not an STX. How can you tell? The vin is 1FTRX12W78FB42428

I have never heard of an ftx? Just stx, I would assume a base model from the looks of it.

I checked my insurance Policy and it says F-150 S for Model. I guess that means STX??????

I just looked up (by the VIN) what bed sticker it should have on Ford parts and it had the STX. So it's an STX. Another give away is the painted bumpers.

You can always look up the VIN for proof on Ford's fleet maintenance site.

XL models don't come with power windows and locks.

I'm guessing because the truk has no sticker identification, the place you went to trade it in at assumed it was an XL. If they did not want to run the VIN, then drive off. They are attempting to low ball you on trade in value. Take it to a Ford dealer, and have them run the VIN for you (free).
