At least our trucks have dipsticks and can be serviced by the owner. My 2006 Mustang has a sealed tranny. No dipstick the only way to change it is by a machine...

The newer BMW's have removed the engine oil dipstick as well. They use a sensor to alarm the driver when the engine oil is low....I'd hate to see the damage done if/when that sensor goes bad, and the engine siezes.

Wow! What is so awful or expensive about a dipstick? I hope no other car makers follow suit but I'm sure some will. Secondly now the only way you can get a peak into the motors history (when buying used) is to take off the oil cap.

Or "demand" to see the service records. When I buy used, I ask for service records. If the seller cannot provide, I walk (or drive) to the next vehicle. There's plenty of used cars and trucks for sale. No need to assume the vehicle was maintained.
