Default Map Lights and Mirror Lamps

Hi all,

Im new to the F-150 Forum. We have a 2005 F-150, love the Truck, wish we bought one earlier. Our Map lights or Mirror Lights do not work. I checked the book yesterday, and did not see a fuse for those light. However if you open the door to the truck or turn on the switch for all the lights to work, our maplights work, but not the mirror lamps. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mike

Wierd one here. Are you saying the mirror lamps don't work in any situation? If so, it may have been an "added on" option by a previous owner, and they never bothered to wire up those lamps to the interior lamp circuit. Ebay sells all types of rear view mirrors, some with compasses, some with garage door openers, some with auto dimmers, some with all of the above, so you may have a mirror that was bought and installed for use of another feature.

Can you clarify if this is the case (map lights do not work at all)?

Might be as simple as the bulbs too, if it is a stock item that was installed by the factory.

Yes, the Map Lights work when you hit the Truck alarm, when you turn on all interior light, but NOT when you are driving down the road at night time, and you are looking for something..We have to turn on all the inteerior lights for that. As far as the Mirror lights, they do not work.

This is one I cannot fix or help you "online". I'd have to reace the mirror lights wiring to see why you cannot turn them on seperately. My guess is either its a simple as the bulbs missing or blown, or they are not wired to power. There should be a at least two wires from them running up into the headliner, then over to one of the A-pillars (guessing the right side). One wire to ground, one wire to constant power.

I assume the switch to turn those mirror lights on is intigrated within the mirror assembly.

Is this a stock mirror? Are you talking about the rear view mirror? Can you provide a picture to determine if this is a stock mirror setup, or perhaps an aftermarket add-on?

Buck,

The lights I'm refering to on on the Sunvisor, sorry If I have confused anyone. When you lift the Sun visor up to use the small mirror, there are 2 little lights..one on each side of the mirror, those are not working. As far as the maplights, they are located in the front center of the truck, closet to the front windshield. and there is also a interior light in the back of the truck.

Gotcha. The more detail, the better. Do those sun visor lights have a small "pin" that pops out when you open the flap to the mirror? This tiny pin is the switch for on/off for this type of setup.
Others I've seen just turn on when the visor is pulled down, indicating the on/off "switch" is within the side hinges.

I don't have this feature in my plain old STX, so I cannot help you with specifics on where to look for power with a meter. At the very least, I'd buy a light probe and look for power at the bulbs (assuming those mirror bulbs are accessable and replaceable). Start there and work back to the eventual "source" of power to those visor mirror lights.
