Question Lug Nut (Bulge) Help

Hello, everyone!

I just put a 2019 Lariat wheel onto my 2008 XLT. The 6 x 135 bolt pattern, of course, fits... however I was advised to get new lug nuts. My original lug nuts hold, but the "acorn bulge" is not large enough. As I understand it, a larger bulge would both protect my wheels from damage as well as better secure the wheels to the truck. I'm new to the truck world and have no idea where to look!

Any advise on where to get lug nuts that still fit the thread, but have a larger bulge?

I appreciate any guidance / direction you can give!

What the lug nuts look like on my truck right now

My opinion, I would not drive it with the present lug nuts. You can find all sorts of lug nuts on Amazon and e-bay.

I agree with Jimboy, I wouldn't drive it with those lug nuts. Here's a link I found when I got my '17 wheels. I went with the Gorilla lug nuts.

I don't understand why your OEM lugs from your truck didn't fit the 2019 wheels? I run 2018 sport wheels on my 2006, and I used the OEM lugs for a few weeks before I got a set of Gorillas. The OEM bulge lugs fit fine in the new wheels(just looked ugly since it was open ended)....

I'm using my original lug nuts too! Just a little ugly.

Please share the pics of the lug nuts comparing stock to OEM. And maybe a nice picture of them installed. You can PM me if you'd like once you get them installed.

I'm about ready to order Ford lug nuts to replace mine. Brake check a few days ago, first time for me to remove the rear wheels and many of them had slippery caps. And the wrench doesn't engage too well on a few of them.

Thank you for your thoughts, everyone! I'm not quite sure on why the original lug nuts don't work either... but I'm hoping some new ones will have a bigger "acorn"/bulge. I wish I could see them side by side before buying.

(and ReaperHWK)...

Are these the Gorilla lug nuts you went with? https://www.summitracing.com/parts/gor-61108cxl (61108CXL)

Also ensure the hex size is correct on the replacement lugs. You don't want to be on the road and realize your lug wrench doesn't fit the nuts.
And make sure the nut isn't too long -I had some from a local shop but they were like 1/2" too long. Makes the truck look like a semi-truck with the lug nuts sticking out far.

Start reading from the post at the link I'm providing.
See if that adds to your confusion.
It was a conversation from a few months ago about which lugs work. Take your time, some of them refer to lugs that fit factor wheels, some talk is about which ones to use for non OEM wheels.

It contradicts the link from earlier in this current thread.

And another thread voting for the 61148cx model.

See below cut and paste from an old post I made. I ended getting the 1.9” and they look great on my setup. (20” 2018 sport wheels)

“I've been researching on the Gorilla website, looks like gorilla PN 91107 is a 14mmx2.00, Acorn Bulge, and it only 1.4" tall.

Also another option is Gorilla PN 91107XL, which is a 14mmx2.00, Acorn Bulge, and it's 1.9" tall.

The third option is Gorilla PN 61108CXL (as mentioned), which is a 14mmx2.00, Acorn Bulge, and is 2.2" tall.

I just bought sport wheels for my 2008 F150, and going to see which height would look the best. Probably the 1.9" I'd guess. The lug nuts for the 2015+ trucks are 1.62" tall, but there is no option for that in the 14mmx2.00 threads with a 13/16"(21mm) head.”
