Default Loud Engine Rattle

Hey everyone I am having another issue with my truck. When I first start my truck up, especially when it's cold outside, I hear a very loud rattle coming from the drivers side. I'm having a hard time locating it. I have a 05 5.4 with 65,000 miles on her. I am experiencing the cam phaser issues as well and this noise sounds completely different. Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Is it a constant rattle, or last a few seconds only? If it's constant, could be exhaust manifold. If it's only for a short time like a few seconds, could be oil filter related, if your filter doesn't have an anti flowback valve that will drain the oil from the top of the motor and rattle like crazy til it circulates back up there. Otherwise, look for a bad bearing in a pulley......

Just offering a few starting places to look.....

Probably timing chain and chain guide tensioners and related parts. It will get worse more than likely but it can be numerous things. Does it stop when ou accelerate above 1,000-1,200 rpm? If so I definately think timing components.

It's usually loud at first and they goes away when the engine gets a little warmer. When in driving its not there but if I stop at a light, I am starting to hear it faintly now. I use ford oil filters and oil. I just changed my oil last week and do my changes around 5,000. Is it common for the bearing to go out?

Does it only make this noise on startup? Mine makes a rattling noise on startup that i believe is timing chain and tensionor componets. Just my 2 cents...

Yes it's pretty much on startup. After reading what everyone is saying, I feel that it is a timing chain/tensioner issue. I was looking to replace the tensioner components and chains and install the livernois lockout kit to prevent further issues. I'm just a little unhappy that the truck only has 65,000 miles and several of the common issues already.

Is it a low pitch or high pitch sound. Does it increase and decrease with RPM?

It's a lower pitch and goes away when I drive. I can only hear it at Idel.
