Default Looking at an 04 FX4

Saw a 2004 FX4 at the Dodge dealer today, lifted up a couple inches, and has some new bigger meaty tires on the stock rims.

Its not loaded, cloth, power drivers seat, manual rear window, etc.

They're asking $12,990 IIRC, it drove great, sounded good, but 2 issues.

1. Drivers front window goes down smooth and fast, but going up from being all the way down, it CRAWLS until its a little more than halfway and then it returns to normal speed.

2. No 4Hi... 4 Low works great, but having it in neutral, brake applied, nothing happens when the **** is set to 4 Hi. No light or anything, seems to be a SLIGHT clunk similar to 4 Low, but not as loud, and nothing happens. The light does illuminate at startup (With all the other lights)

I really like the truck, my mom had one when I was younger, and we loved it, but im just seeing all these issues on the forums that are scaring me. Something about ticking and sludge, timing chains, etc.

It has 119,000 miles on it, and could use a new rear bumper (Rusty) and the black plastic around the bed, door handles etc could use some fresh paint.

Clean CarFax, just looked it up on KBB and its showing me roughly $12,091 from a dealer fair price, in good condition, with little to no rust, whereas this rear bumpers pretty nasty.

5 months ago I bought a 2005 FX4 Super Crew with an 8 inch lift , and 38 inch tires 84000 miles for 135000 , it was a consighnment dealer in Colorado . Havent had a problem with it yet , other than the mileage is great , but rolling on 12.5/38 tires that is to be expected .
Long story short with 120,000 miles and the 4x4 not work propelry I wouldnt go a penny over 10k . Unless they are willing to repair the 4x4 then I would offer 11500 and Neg. . I wouldnt buy a truck with the 4x4 not working proplery , just asking for trouble . I would also have your own mechanic look at it before dropping a dime on it .

Thats what im thinking, I really like the truck, the plastics are no big deal, Ive painted them OEM black on any vehicle ive had in the past, but that window and the 4x4 are gonna be my price dropping points.

Searched around and saw that a few other people are having the same issues, 4 low works but not 4 high, seems like the actuator is usually the cause of the issues. I would rarely use the 4x4 anyways, I would just hate for this little issue to turn into a bigger issue down the road.

For 4lo you have to be stopped and in neutral and apply brake. But for 4hi you just engage that while drive under 45 mph and make sure tires aren't slipping.

As for the window. I had a car that did that. But I just let it go and I never had an issue with it.

If you really like the truck, I would assume that you could have both issues corrected by the dealership as part of the deal.

$10 is fair. It's 10 years old and basic. Pretty much a nice truck for a buy here pay here bilingual place..... You need to pay accordingly.

On the side note... I would NEVER buy a used truck from a dealer if they hadn't fixed everything on it first... You're basically buying a "broken" vehicle....

and on a truck with over 100k miles the dealer doesn't have to warranty anything, atleast that's how it is in NY
