Default :( It had to happen sometime..

Well its happened. My babie is on the lift right now.
Last night I noticed a rapid bumping noise when I turned left. I thought it was something caught in the tread and didn't worry about it. Sounded and drove fine straight and turning right.
I picked my wife up to go out to dinner 40 miles away from the house. I got on the Interstate and she did fine. Getting off the interstate to the right I noticed the same noise. Hmmmmm
Well as I turned into the restaurant parking lot I thought my front end was going to fall the frig out. I parked her and had my wife get in the drivers seat to move the truck around while I was outside trying to locate the noise. I couln't get her to do what I wanted because she was afraid she was gonna run over me. I (at the restaurant mind you) crawled up under my truck and was looking for something caught in the caliper or on the spindle...Nothing. An old dude came up and said (I love this) Sounds like a CV Joint. Me being in the great mood that I was, "Its 2wd do I look friendly right now or did I ask your advise?
We went inside ate and went over to a Lowes parking lot (its after 10 at night) I looped her around in circles a couple of times and parked it. Jacked up the Left front as that is where the noise was coming from and shooke the wheel. PLAY!!!! WTF? I just put these rotors on. BTW NEw Ford 150 rotors come with bearings in them.
I babied the truck back to the house. The noise got alot worse when even changing lanes.
Brought her to the shop this morning took the wheel and rotor off. OMG at the noise the bearings make just turning them by hand.
Here is the reason to NEVER!!! NEVER!!! buy cheap stuff. I was short on cash when I did the front brakes so I bought the budget rotors. NEVER AGAIN!!!

OUCH!!! That sucks, how much is that gonna cost? Any warranty on them? I did the rotors on mine (all four) with the drilled/slotted ones. 4wd rotors are a lot cheaper than the 2wd rotors (not sure how much though) 4x doesn't come with bearings and it's not needed to take anything more than the caliber off to replace the rotor.

The only question I have is, did you remember to preload the bearings before you did your first test drive? Even cheap ones gotta be installed right to last for any amount of time. Sorry to hear the thing came undone. Did both sides fail?

Damn sorry to hear about the truck. You sound exactly how I would have been though had it been my truck, not really in the mood for unsolicited advice from someone. Let us know how it turns out and which rotors you went with so we all can avoid them.

I warrantied them out. New ones will be about 129.00 for Wagner when these fail again.

These are hub bearings. The center nut is torqued to 295 ft/lbs. So yes I think there is enough preload on them..lol. Since ya don't know me I gotta let ya know. I am not as old as you so you have ALOT more expierence in life than I do. I have been working in shops since I was 11 years old. I am 32 now. I have worked on everything from Pintos to Ferraris. I love what I do and am damn good at it. I don't know everything, I wish I did, but I know alot as most of the guys on here will tell you. Thanks for the concern though. Hopefully I can help you in the future if you need it or vice versa.

I used Advance's line of rotors Wearevers. I have never had a problem with them before. I guess if they have moving parts inside them they don't work very well...lol
Well she is fixed now. I had the whole neighborhood staring at me doing donuts in the parking lot. It started out as left and right turns to listen for the noise. Then the tires started to make noise so I laid into the loud pedal...heheheehe. Shoulda seen the look on their faces with this big old S-Crew spinning like a sports car in the lot.

Thanks for the age reminder. I need it from time to time.
I have worked on everything from lawn mowers to tanks and bulldozers to funny cars in my life. I will bow to your knowledge of current automotive technology as I am very old school. I stopped turning wrenches too many years ago except for personal vehicles to keep up. I am very glad to know you have it back up and running without odd noises.

Glad you got it taken care of!

I have more powerspoerst knowledg than I know what to do with, and most of the basics of cars and trucks.

I try to learn as much as I can, for example, when I am bored, I go on the internet and just look up things that I have wanted to know untill I understand them.

I have to give all of you guys props on just being so damned smart, lol
