Default Lighting Options

Thinking about upgrading the headlights on my 05 Lariat. Not really wanting to spend a whole lot, would like to stay around $100. I've read many things about the LED bulbs in stock housings and the consensus is that they are dangerous to oncoming traffic, not wanting to cause any accidents, so those will likely be a no...I have also saw someone do a conversion with the sealed 7 inch LED's that are meant to go in a Jeep or a motorcycle, which has me intrigued because they are very affordable on amazon, a pair averages $100 give or take. Seems like someone here in this board did just that but I can't find it. Also found a 7 inch prefab HID with everything that I need to make it work, just needing to adapt it to my housing. Thoughts? Anyone did either of these?

LEDs in a Halogen housing are fine so long as they're both retrofit style (meaning the low beams have a hood over the LED to provide cutoff) and you re-aim your lights down.

Can you show me a pair that might be like this? Obviously it would be much easier this route if its not too expensive...

I'm not speaking for this set or brand specifically, it's just the first ones I found on amazon that had this design:

See the cutoff hood on the first LED? Those front LEDs are your lows, that cutoff scoop is to keep the light from bouncing around the housing and blinding oncoming drivers with a ton of undirected glare (that's why those hoods go in facing the bottom of the housing). When you kick on your highs, all the LEDs fire, so it doesn't make a difference.

interesting read here....

Some of these guys say that this shroud that they make is better than the lights that come with them, some before and after pics also suggest this...

Yea, that's pretty much exactly what the LEDs I posted have on them... and with the same explanation.

Good video. I personally have the ones posted(different vendor) but same XHP50 LED. If I had to do it over again, I'd get the GTR bulbs per this video.

I agree with the review on the XHP50 that they are bright, but the beam throw is more like a "corridor" then a nice spread that would be perfect. That said they are better than the stock H13's.

the more I think about it, the more I want to do an HID system... I'm going to open up my headlights to paint them anyway. I found some projectors on Amazon that had some real good reviews with pics and videos for $30...and some opt7 HID and Ballasts for $85...If I go HID I won't have to worry about being in a situation that I might blind oncoming traffic...

I just stumbled across this find... which could be a good option since my housings are coming apart to paint anyway...
