Default Lie-o-meter

Hi, I don't know what y'all call 'em in the F-150 Forum but over in the the Super Duty forums they call 'em lie-o-meters. Its the gauge that shows you the average fuel mileage. I thought that I would check mine out on my trip from Las Vegas to VA.

I drove interstate 40 most of the way about 8-9 miles over the posted limit (about 83-84 MPH in the western states and 78-79 in the eastern states) This was using the cruise control except when in heavy traffic. I stopped monitoring when I got to Bristol for the NASCAR race as with any Nascar race there is a lot of stop & go.

Anyway, the lie-o-meter showed 17.0 average MPG but when I calculated it manually it was 19.1! (2125 miles/111.2 gallons) What a pleasant surprise! The truck is a 2007 Lariat SCREW with a 5.5 foot bed with a 5.4 3 valve with a 3.73 rear gear with 104,000 miles . I was carrying about a 1375 lb. load that was tarped down.

Does this seem about right given the circumstances? I was amazed at the mileage. I've got a used SCT tuner with a custom performance tune that I'm gonna install this week.

I think that's pretty good, considering you were hitting 80+ and not sticking to the 70-75 range

That's really good. From Kentucky to daytona beach driving 70-74 on cruise the entire drive I averaged averages about 16.7. I have a '04 5.4 supercrew with a tonneau cover. I wasn't impressed with my numbers.

That is good! What size tires? I get about 16-17 (calculated) with 2in level and 35's. I have an 08 3v 5.4.

Tires are stock 18's (275/65R18) which are 32 1/2" according to Tire Rack. Suspension is stock. The previous owner (only owner) didn't do anything to level it (its a 4X4). I guess I ought to count my blessings! The only thing that I can figure is that the cruise control really helped.

I've got a used SCT tuner that I'm going to use to install a performance 87 tune this week.

My cousin up in DE (about 315 miles from Southside VA) is having an All Ford "cruise-in" at the end of the month and I'll check it again and report mileage.

Just for info, my '08 6.4 diesel F-350 Super Duty SCREW 4X4 lie-o-meter shows 18 MPG when its only 16 MPG.

I choose not to look at the gas bills. If I did, I would sell my truck in a heartbeat, buy a civic, and fix up the old dakota that's sitting at the farm lol. Nobody bought their trucks for their great gas mileage. Just get used to it, or live with it. It's only going to get worse from here on out..

BTW, spending about 6-800 a month on gas alone... Plus insurance which was 300 per month last year but my insurance has changed to 200 now. I totalled a ranger that wasn't much better on gas so don't worry about your insane gas bills too much.

Maybe I just come from a mentality that I will never drive a car... So many blind spots haha. But I justify driving the truck regardless of ridiculous costs lol

Lol, I drove a V6 manual ranger for 4.5 years and got 24+ MPG. I like the added room I'm afforded in my Screw F150 much better and it's worth the difference.

I couldn't drive a car, it would never make it down my ranch road.. Last few cars and small SUV's that went down it lost their oil pans lol.

I've got to follow this thread, because I was was certain the lie-o-meter was OVERguessing my mileage. I drive like my old man, (except I don't drift across lanes or coast to a stop on the freeway 'cause I forgot I was driving), but maybe I should save receipts and figure out how to use the trip meter....
