Default LED Tailgate Bar Install

Good Morning all! So I got a tailgate brake/reverse/turn signal all that jazz but I am having an issue installing it. Has anyone ever installed one on an 04-05? I've run into two issues. The first one is this lip above my bumper and the second is the little peg connected to my tailgate that sits inside of a cutout in my bed when the tail gate is opened. How does everyone get around these? The only ideas ive come up with are using the screws with the brackets to secure the bar to the bed and to cut off that little peg. I will post some pics for reference.

Had the same problem last year. My mom had got me a 60 inch line of fire tailgate light bar and I went to put it on but it didn't fit because of that peg. I went to a local truck shop and asked him about it and he said the peg is in place to help keep the tailgate from swaying to one side or the other. So I had to get a 49 inch led tailgate bar

I'm in the same boat right now. I got the 60 for Christmas and can't seem to get that peg to cleat the bar. I have read a few people have cut enough of it off to still function but will clear the bar but I don't know yet. Do you have any pics of the 49 bar installed by chance?

That shop is full of retards. A tailgate doesnt "sway". It's a safety stop for only when the tailgate is open, it goes into the slot of the bed. If for some reason you were to open the tailgate without the cables hooked up, it keeps the outer skin of the tailgate from hitting the bumper. I don't know about you, but I am smart enough to not let my tailgate slam open if the cables weren't attached. You are perfectly fine cutting it off or some say it unscrews.

Okay! I figured as much. I've never had that on any of my other trucks so figured I wouldn't need it now. I haven't taken the gate off yet so I don't know if there are screws or not. I think I'll just take the jig saw to it tonight.

I actually bought the led bar at Walmart, but have not installed it yet. I have been researching what to do with the peg. As far as the "lip", the light bar just rests right above it.

And it will still shine and function as normal? I haven't been in a car behind my truck yet but it seems as the bar would be above the lip on the tailgate. Then again I could just be crazy! Ha

You are incorrect on the description of the bar in the way. The real purpose of it is the spring assist when closing the tailgate. The tailgate has a torsion spring to ease the load when closing.

Then why has 100% of people that removed it say it didnt make a difference? Simply cutting 2 inches off it would then in NO WAY hamper an internal spring assist.......Also please explain the numerous people that say they dont even have on on their tailgate.
