Default Key fob upgrade

Hey all, I have been looking into getting the key/fob combo for my 09 FX4 and have gone through al the threads I can find using different fob keys. I am wondering if anyone has been able to use a 2015-2019 3 button key to work on their 04-08?

Amazon Amazon

This is the type of key I want to use ( I really like the flip key aspect )

Any help/input is greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Doesn't the dealer have to program it? I would ask your local dealer to see if they can do that for you.

I’ve had good luck buying keys on eBay from a seller called keylessremotesforless. The listings generally clarify which vehicle years/models are compatible. The link you provided didn’t work for me so I could not see/read what you were looking at. But based on description posted it looks like they are NOT indicating compatibility for an 09?

The key blank for that looks like a sidewinder key, so it likely wont fit in a 2009 ignition, at least not without more work than just having it cut at a locksmith.
Keys can be programmed at home with Forscan w/ an extended license, and a computer with a bluetooth obd2 adapter.
There are 2 parts to programming. 1 Program the truck immobilizer to recognize the chip in the key. 2 program the fob to open the doors.

I used an Amazon all in 1 key and used Forescan to program it myself for my 2005. No complaints except the range for the remote. I need to be within 10 feet of the truck for it to work. Factory stand alone fob was way farther.

Did you get a locksmith to cut it? I got a key from amazon and none of the hardware stores will cut it for me. Haven't tried a locksmith yet... I might file it by hand if I get desperate and bored one day...

I recently bought two of these for my 08 off of Amazon. Took them to my local Ace Hardware and had them cut same as my factory keys for $6 out the door. I still have my two original keys and used them to self program the new keys.

Bingo! It worked and has been smooth sailing ever since.
