Just got true dual flowmaster exhaust on my 08 xlt supercrew 5.4l and it sounds bad ***, but now wanting to get a intake, I was looking at a series 77, is that good bad and r they easy to install, it looks like it is. Would love to hear some opinions on what you have or what you suggests. Thanks

Lean issue and poorer filtration than stock, so bad. Do the Gotts mod for a power increase and keeping stock filtration.

I have put a K&N cold air intake and I love it! It changed my throttle response and help me get better gas milage on top of it. My truck does not downshift as much when in need of more power and this cold air intake was so much better than my stock that I had on my 04.

Opinions on "CAI"s are like *******s, everyone has one. The gotts mod has the backing of some experienced F150 owners, and some have said that it provides the same gains as the CAIs. I'm sure someone has a dynotune sheet to prove it. The best bang for the buck is the gotts mod. When u hear the noise for the gotts mod is because some have removed the noise baffles from the stock piping to make it sounded more "aggressive". The type of CAI is all on preferences, I have buddies that run K&N, AirAid and others, they all enjoy their setup. So it really is "to each their own".

Ya see if always wanted a k&n CAI and have always herd good things and the series 77 is all stainless steel and think it would sound good and give me more throttle response. I have never herd of the Gotts but then again I could always do the mod and untill I get a CAI. The modd looks easy and wouldn't take to long to do, but still think I would go with a CAI. What is the difference in series? I see there's like 63 77s and so on what is the advantages?

Mine is 57 series with a plastic tube. I do have a programer that accounts for and adjusts for the cai. If you don't retune, it allegedly can lead to a lean issue, although some say they run fine. The 04-05 are more lean than later years, from my readings on these forums. If it were me, I would do the gotts mod and not worry about the lean issue and invest the money in other mods. It does sound good at wot, but I don't do that very often.

^ You will need to look into custom tunes and a programmer then if you have to have a CAI. There really aren't any advantages of the CAI over the Gotts. Major disadvantage to the CAI is running lean. Maybe a couple horse at the top end with the CAI, but that's really a stretch. I'll give up a negligible power gain for better filtration any day, that's just me.

So I was looking at the links, I saw on some you don't have to replace the snorkel you just put it back, but on that one ye replaced it. What the best way to go?

Replacing the snorkel with 3" pvc to the fender is the best. Leaving it open ended allows it to pull air from the engine bay.
