Default just another exhaust thread

I know there are tons of exhaust threads, I've read them. But I'm really on the fence. My 5.4 screw currently has a 2.5" si/so 2.5" flowmaster, not sure series as it came on the truck when I bought it. Sound is fairly deep but just not loud enough. I think I have decided to get a 3" from the Y back to a super 10 series dual out 3" dumped side behind rears. Called on some quotes and shops all wonder why I want 3" out. One asked do you want to be obnoxiously loud? Well yeah I kinda do haha! One even said 3" would be less deep sounding than 2.5" which I just can't believe.. I had even considered putting 4" tips. I want it loud deep and mean. So 2.5 or 3.0" duals? 4" tip or just run 3"? I'm not interested in pulling cats even tho my sct will clear o2 code. Don't wana pay for high flows. So many options. Watched YouTube vids of super 10, dyno bullets, loudmouth. I don't want ricer high pitch, don't want the popping. Cabin drone I can live with My 2011 Eco work truck means my 5.4 isn't a daily driver. What do u do?

The trick will be gaining volume and not the popping. General rule of thumb is the shorter the muffler the louder the exhaust. Also the deeper you want the tone, usually the more baffles involved as they are used to alter the sound waves. Flow masters are notorious for being loud and obnoxious which you said you were looking for. Downside is they are also known for popping.

Idk what you have on now but I have a flowmaster american thunder 3in dual 2.5 out. I've had the 40 series, super 44, and the super 10. All to me sounded just about the same... The meanest sounding thing I found to do was just take the muffler out and put a y pipe in. But right now I'm back to the 10 because I was due for inspection

The single 3" mid pipe is fine, but 3" duals beyond that are too large to keep good velocity. Dual 2.5" would be a much better choice. You can keep the tone and avoid uncessary drone by sending the exhaust out other than dumping it. Hiding the tips can be done if you don't like the look. 4" tips will give a slightly deeper tone, but won't change it much.

I wouldn't consider a FM to be mean sounding but to each their own

I would get a Super 44. I would have the shop take out the resonator, run 3 inch pipe into a SI/DO muffler.

It will sound really good.

That 40 series clip is pretty spot on for how mine sounds right now. The super 44 I know is pretty deep sounding. Would running 4" tips help?

Agree, I don't see the hype over FM, I think they are overplayed and don't sound that great.

Moroso Spirals are awesome if you want sound.

I have a Thrush 28" Glasspack and it sounds awesome.
