If infact it did do this, it would probably run rough and have some misfiring occur on the side the phaser slipped. It would would imagine run rough, maybe enough to cause a CEL especially with heavy throttle. The throttle would be most likely also be laggy, if that is the right term.

are you getting an CEL?

Well I do have a misfire but that is because of bad plugs. It had a slight misfire when I bought it at 147k on it and now at 159k it's a bit worse. But it still will not throw a misfire code. I've ran the hell out of it trying to get it to throw one and it just won't do it. And the throttle is getting a little laggy. I'm just hoping its the bad plus making it a little sluggish. It still idles at about 600 rpm's just like it did when I bought it.

Swap the plugs out, I assume you know about the breakage issue with the 5.4L 3V plugs, if not, look it up before attempting.

Oh I've studied the plug issue threads top to bottom. I've already got my lisle tool sitting in the center console. Just haven't got the extra $130 scraped up yet to buy the plugs!

Lookup advance auto promo codes. Place order online and choose pick up at store location of your choosing. I found a 30% off code yesterday but it will only discount up to 50.00 max. When i did my plugs i got them for around 70 bucks.

Hi.

So, you think yer being frugal? Do you realize the consequences of long-term running with misfires - toasted cats, washed down cylinder walls, diluted oil?

Could be that $130 is the lesser of the evils, as accrued damage may end up costing you a lot more.

Something to consider.

The codes are there - pending codes - you need a proper scan tool to pull those.

BTW - add another ~$32 fer new boots, and a tube of dielectric and nickel A/S...

Eat Kraft dinner, stop buying smokes and quit drankin' beer fer a week and buy those plugs

$130 for plugs.... What kind of plugs are you looking at? Go Motorcraft at around $3-4 per plug.

Please supply it as that's a great deal. Rockauto wants ~$10 each.
