IWE \ T-case Question
ok my IWE has been acting up, when i flip the switch to 4HI when moving i will hear noise coming from my front left wheel until i get under 5MPH then the hub locks in.
I have read that you cant unplug the IWE solonoid and drive the truck because it would be like the truck is in 4WD, that would mean the T-case is always in 4WD, is this true????

No.

If you only have the noise on one side it could be a bad seal on the IWE or a leaky/loose vacuum line on that side.

Correct.
An easier temporary fix is to disconnect the vacuum line between the engine and the solenoid. Make sure to plug the ends on the lines though!
This will leave the IWEs engaged full time. The transfer case won't be engaged unless you engage it like normal. The driveshafts to the IWEs WILL be turning full time though, and several of us wonder if that will cause damage to the CV boots at highway speeds.
The replacement of the IWEs is not very difficult...

I was hesitant to do the work myself, but after reviewing the two threads I've posted I had no trouble doing the job in my driveway. It was still warm outside then though!
