Ironic....
The other day I took some heat from members because I would recommend the search on certain questions that come up over and over on this '04 to '08 forum.
Lenn stepped in and deleted the posts having to do with this part of the conversation, as the original post had to do with a specific question, and it quickly turned into a search rant.
One of my posts defending the search was removed, and rightly so from that particular post. Ironically, I mentioned in my response that within a month, there would be posts on CAI's, mufflers, oil, oil filters, and tuners. As of this afternoon, a new "what oil to use, "what filter", and "what CAI" has come up. I was wrong in saying one month; it only took 2 days! I realize that these come from our new members, which we welcome aboard, and want them to post their questions; it's what this forum is all about, and we all welcome that.
A search suggestion as a response is a valid, and I will continue to offer it when it's applicable. There's no reason why a member (new or old) cannot be refered to the search. If they choose to not wanting to read the dozens and dozens of posts on an already covered topic, that's fine, the members that disagree to a search suggestion can continue to post the opinions or answers again on the subject, adding to the long list of answers to common subjects.

Bucko
I agree that so many topics are covered again and again. It almost gets hard to read at times, but these are legitimate questions they/I have.
Even if they do know how to use the search feature, it is quite tedious to go through all the posts.
You were the one that brought the search feature to my attention (Thank you)
I too hope there is no ranting or raving. There is no reason for it.

Some folks are too lazy to do a little research on their own.
Sometimes their search query doesn't provide the answer they seek.
Some people are new to internet forums in general, and just don't understand basic forum etiquette.
I tend to be pretty forgiving. What I don't tolerate is when someone asks an obvious question and then cops an attitude when they are told to "use the search function".
My wife's hand is the only one I hold.

Two excellent points. Again, I am not against posting the answer again (and again) to those that wish to; I'm only stating I will suggest a search when I know their answer will be found.
And there is a reason why the search returns so many posts when it's used...

Bucko, I have to say I'm 100% on your side. A lot of GOOD threads are bumped further and further back with useless repetitive threads on what exhaust, CAI, etc. Do a damn search. How these people get anything done their lives puzzles me since they need to ask everyone else how to do something and what they should do. Be a man and figure it out on your own.
Maybe I'm being harsh right now and digressing...maybe I'm just hungry and need to eat.

You're not being harsh it's a fact. I am constantly finding myself weeding through countless threads of mindless dribble on the same thing just to find a DECENT thread on SOMETHING other than the usually boring banter.
I will also say I have found myself going to my 4bt forum more than ever lately because everytime i get on here all I see is the same ****. The MPG threads really push me over the edge.
IMHO you should be forced to read a post about using the search and politely point out the reasons why BEFORE you can post ANYTHING. search is your friend, so is google USE IT! I do it so can you.

I have tried in various threads (especially after it was done to me) to post a link to a thread that has their answer, which will help that person realize that their question was already asked and answered and helps funnel the good responses into fewer threads. I could be wrong in doing that, but it seems to me as a "nicer" way to tell them to go search for it.

Im sure 99% of all questions that could be asked have been answered and can be found with the search button. With that being said why dont they close down the boards to any new posts because all the answers exist. If people werent on here asking we wouldnt have anything to read. I think that as new products come out and more people try them you will find different answers to the qustions than you did 3/4/5 months ago. I have done several searches on various topics. The problem is people that have no clue are answering the questions with no experience or idea as to whats being asked. If you search a given topic the answers are so inconsistant that by the end the questions never answered. I dont mind reading through countless questions/responses because each time its asked there is more or different info that helps sway my decision. If Im not interested in a MPG thread I simply dont open it. (my opinion)
