Default Intake Question!

Okay, lets start off. I want to get an airaid intake in the future, but right now money isn't filling my pockets, so i need to go the cheap way. I saw the Gotts Mod, and told a car enthusiast friend of mine, so he can help.

He said dont do that, to instead just throw a cone at the end of it, that it would cost about the same.

Now this is where im stuck, why would people do the gotts mod, if they can just throw a cone on it. which is better, which is easier, which is cheaper, any info would be greatly appreciated thanks.

He wants you to put a cone air filter on the end of a tube the feeds an airbox housing a flat panel air filter? What sort of cone filter is cheaper than 6" of pvc pipe?

I would think this is possible, but you would want to remove the other filter for some flow.

well, maybe not cheaper, but not too expensive, according to him.

what would work out better and what would be the price of each?

maybe i can get like pvc-$3-6hp and Cone-$25-12hp? (not accurate)
maybe someone can actually give me the correct numbers?

(I am looking into an airaid intake which run about $300, so this is my ideal plan, but for now one of these two options may be done first)

thanks for ur help

Actually on the 5.4 you need to replace the last section of the stock intake with a 3" pvc leading to the hole in the fender well. Then replace the stock filter with a K&N. Total cost will be around $45.00. But you will see a difference in throttle response. More than worth it to me. PLus my mpg increased by about .5 mpg

i don't know how tight your money situation is, but after this "mod" you might be tighter. why don't you go on ebay and look? i've found k&n's for $260 free shipping and airaids for around $220. IMO i say save some extra money and do it the right way. good luck.
