Default Installing back up camera on my 2006 and looking for reverse wire

Guys,

I’m installing a new stereo in my 2006 and need to locate the reverse lights power wire in the kick panel. My wiring diagram says it’s black with a pink stripe but I’ve been looking in there and there are a lot wires in there and a couple of them look like they’re blackish-brown with a pinkish-orange stripe. Is there somewhere easy I can look to find this thing?

Mike

Can you simply splice into the back-up lights?

I spliced into the reverse light power at the tail light for mine.

Thanks guys. Yes I plan to splice into the reverse light at the tail lamp to power the camera but there is another wire that has to connect to the head unit to tell it to switch the camera mode. I could run a wire up from the taillight to accomplish this but it’s sorta redundant since the reverse light power is somewhere in the jumble of wires in the kick panel. Where is the actual reverse light switch located in these trucks? Maybe I could catch it there?

It comes off your transmission

digital range switch under driver but it goes to a relay for towing in your kick panel passenger side ,whether you have that option or not .

I put mine on a switch, used connectors too so I can remove the camera in total as it's on a bracket that simply is placed between tailgate top and bed cover when lowered, on the plastic guard. This way, can use it while going down the road to monitor trailer and load as desired.

i got a wireless license plate frame camera, that is solar powered/charger. Portable screen in cab plugs into cig lighter. It works really well. I wouldn’t consider it substitute for someone who wants camera every time they back up, but is excellent easy solution for occasional use (towing). It can also be easily moved to diff vehicles. I want to add magnets so I can easily place as desired to monitor towing/load.

Ideally its it’d be nice to have both: permanent/auto, and one that can be easily moved around.
