Default Infamous tick

I know there has been a lot of stuff related to this but mine seems odd to me. Anyways awhile back my truck was doing the slight ticking noise. Thought it could have been the phasers, chain, lifters ect... Was going to change everything but before I did, I decided to do a tune up because I had just bought it and so on. Well when I did that the ticking noise went away and purred like a kitten. Its been roughly 7k miles or so ago and the tick is starting to come back again and only does it when its cold. Tick noise goes away when it warms up and doesn't come back till the truck sits for a long time. Wondering if y'all had any ideas. It's an 04 150, 150k now and well maintained. Not sure if i left anything out and thank you for the help.

Jerry

Did you torque the spark plugs down? They're notorious for backing out if not torqued. Ford recommends 25-27 ft lbs.

If you have a 5.4L, try using 5-30 oil instead. I've heard nothing but bad things about 5-20 and personally won't use it in either of my 5.4s anymore. My 04 fx4 f150 is using 15W-40.

no kidding. wow. Ill have to check the spark plugs. i don't remember if I torqued them. Don't think I did. Might try 5w30 but 15w-40 is a little thick for our winters are pretty cold and summers really hot. thanks for the help. I appreciate it.

It'd be silly not to suggest it if it's worked for others. Not trying to start an "oil thread", but mine started running infinitely better when I swapped oil, its something cheap and easy to test things out before throwing parts at it.

Well torqued everything down and haven't noticed much of a change. Curious if a plug went bad or could a cop for some reason make it tick. Just strange to me that it would go away after changing the plugs out awhile back and now starting to tick again.
