Improved towing?
never weighed any of it, but my truck has hauled: horses in a 3 horse slant with a tack room, cattle in a 16' cattle trailer, and a good sized john deere w/ front end loader on a 16' flatbed. and that's with a 4.6, and before the programmer.
i will be hauling my trail rig (around 4500#) on a trailer once its finished (the trail rig). i have 100% confidence in my setup
Two days after i bought my 07 screw with the 5.4, i had to do a tow test to make sure it would work for us. I have a 1987 travel trailer that weighs in dry at 6000 lbs. South of the town i live in, there is a grade going into the city of Lewiston WA. The grade climbs 2000 feet in 7 miles. We towed the trailer down the hill for lunch, and then began the climb back up. The starting speed limit at the bottom of the hill is 45 and changes to 65 one mile from the bottom. I set the cruise control at 45 on the bottom of the hill and it held it. When we passed the marker for the 65 mph change, i gave the "set" button 20 taps and watched the speedometer slowly climb. We hit 65 two miles from the top with the AC on. The temp gauge never passed the halfway mark.
The truck is stock with 40,000 miles on the odometer. The only difference between my truck and yours, is that my truck came stock with a 3.53 gear ratio. They told me that this ratio would give me the best of both worlds, decent gas mileage and good towing. So far i have seen it to be true.
This picture was taken at the top of the grade.
