Default I'm an idot

This morning I spilled coffee down the front on my middle control panel. Of course some coffee went into the CD loading slit. Now the cdfunction is a mess and I can't change any function in the unit i.e. going from AM to FM. Any ides would be greatly appreciated.

thanks
scramble

try taking the unit out, taking the case off of it and washing it. Let it dry for a couple of days and re-install it. If that dosent work you will need a new radio.

Did your coffee have cream and or sugar in it? If it was either your head unit is most likely creamed (sorry couldn't resist). If you lubed it up with black coffee you might be able to save it by hitting the CD load slot up with a vacuum cleaner and try to suck the evil out of it. Use a corner attachment and just keep going until you completely dry out the units innards, if that doesn't do it you will have too remove it. If it was a cream and sugar blessing you will have to remove the whole thing and open it up and hose it down with a good circuit board cleaner. Go here http://www.mouser.com/ for circuit board cleaning spray, Techspray has a whole line of such products. Mouser is a great outfit which I have been dealing with for at least 20 years. Give them a call a tell them what you want to do and they will suggest a good cleaner for you. In the end don't be suprised if you have new Pioneer, Kenwood, Sony, etc it sitting where your present unit now resides, You wanted HD radio anyway, didn't you.

Oh and don't feel all alone I have ruined more then my fair share of portable radios, and computer key boards dumping soda pop and coffee on them.

Distilled water is a great cleaner, mineral free water is non-conductive. In fact some Cray Super Computers are cooled with distilled water. When I am start work on a vintage tube type transmitter if it is totally discussing with mouse crap and what have you I pull the case off and put everything in my dishwasher. I don't do this with old receivers because of the wax sealing up the IF cans. for them I use a couple of cans of Lysol Spray.

Just out of curiosity, would there be any coverage
for an accident of this sort in either your auto comprehensive or
home owners insurance ?

Might be worth a call,

Ken H.

In my work truck coffee and coke has been spilled down the front of the radio sticking the buttons so that you couldn't change the channel or set the clock.I used tuner cleaner and had good results cleaning it.You may have to do it several times to get it all out.Do so at your own risk though.
