I'm pretty sure it was a Motorcraft clutch but I'm not 100% positive. I know it cost as much as a South Bend pull kit but was chosen due to lack of time waiting to get the clutch fixed. Yes, the flywheel was machined last time. At the moment, the chatter isn't my biggest issue more the new found pedal play and the fact that the truck lurches when you try and put it into gear.

Today'sunits are no longer "mechanical", and use fluid (clutch cylinder) to provide an easy clutch pedal.

If you've checked the clutch fluid level and it's at it's correct fill mark (indicating no leaks), then I'd say your due for a replacement clutch and pressure plate.

How can I check the clutch fluid level on an 2004 4.2L v6?

Lurching when you put it in gear and failure to disengage (truck wants to creep forward in gear clutch depressed when stopped) isn't indicative of a worn out clutch but rather a problem in the master or slave cylinder or air in the system. I'd start by bleeding the clutch. That should fix it. If the problem comes back then you have a leak somewhere.

When does it chatter? All the time or only when your foot is off the clutch? I had an 88 Mustang GT with a 5 speed that would chirp all the time the clutch was fully engaged unless you rested your foot on the pedal. Changed the throw out bearing and that fixed it for a week. Was very frustrating. Finally figured out it was the input shaft housing that the TOB rode on that bolts to the front of the transmission. Changed that and it was forever quiet. Wouldn't have expected that to be a wear part as the only thing that touches it is the TOB that slides along it, but it did wear out.
