Default I might have a problem

So i drove home from school today and parked...then heard a hissing noise then looked up, noticing "something" pouring into the wind...looked like mist and smelled like anti-freeze. after a good five minutes, the hissing and spray of a chemical stopped. My dad and i think its the anti freeze. well if it is or if its not, what could be happening or how it could have happened?

I think a better description is needed... Where was the source of the fluid... From your description it sounds like an act of God, raining anti-freeze... if that is the case, screw the truck and get to church now...

...mist coming from where? Under the hood? Your rather vague description sounds like a coolant issue...Any other indications? Engine temp light??

With the engine cooled off, open the radiator cap and check the fluid level. Also check the external coolant reservoir for correct fluid level. If they are low, refill with 50/50 coolant mix. Make sure the radiator cap is on correctly. Check the coolant hoses to/from the radiator and also the line from the external reservoir to the radiator for leaks or missing clamps.

If the fluid was low, after the refill run the engine for a short while (10-15 minutes at the house while watching the engine compartment for any evidence of what you saw/heard in your description.

If the fluid level was NOT low, you could still do the "watch the engine" test to try and see where the "mist" is coming from...

That would be my next guess too, from a failed line/fitting. It wouldn't smell like anti-freeze though, and that would be a one-time event. I had an AC leak out quickly once, and it sure didn't take 5 minutes. More like 10 seconds, and looked like white smoke coming out from the hood.

You do NOT want to be inhaling anti-freeze or AC fumes/mist!!!

I think this may be the key to why the original post was so vague....

Radiator...what? Cracked/damaged, or just low? Even if it's kaput, a radiator replacement isn't hard at all.
