how much....
Interestingly, back a few months ago when the gas prices were high, the dealership that I bought my truck from called me asking to buy it back. The guy said that they wanted to get some low mileage trucks on their used lot. Mine was 30k at 3 years. Odd, but I entertained the idea. How much was he looking to pay? "within 90% of the kelly blue book price", he said. So, clearly, he would take the kbb price, and go down to 90% of that... to start with.
I wasn't that interested in selling my truck, so I don't know if it was KBB private party or way down at KBB trade-in. There is a several thousand dollar difference there. To arrive at either number, you need to go onlinea and list out all the options, color, miles, location, etc.
Any customization will lower the truck's value a lot, even if it is a fancy stereo, interior, lift, etc. Factory upgrades are good. Aftermarket upgrades are not. Additionally, if you have old or mismatched tires, hail damage, non-pristine paint, etc, they will lower their offer further.
Unless you are really looking to sell your truck, don't look up its value. It will just be disappointing. Your truck is worth a lot less than you think.
Then, if you DO sell it to a dealer (as in a trade-in or whatever), DO NOT go looking for that truck back on the lot later. They will have it listed 5-7k more than what you got when you "sold" it to them.
Sell it private party if you can, but therein lies risk. Trading it in (or selling it back if you are offered) will yield a much lower price, but you don't have to worry about finding a buyer or worry about that check from them clearing.
My advice: don't look it up unless you really want to sell it. Good luck though!
