How hard is it to replace the Power Steering Pump?
[QUOTE=tomeal;4336979]just did it myself....get a reversible 10mm racheting wrench. I only had three bolts holding mine..i didn't take the pulley off. |QUOTE]
THIS. Without a ratcheting wrench, it takes forever to back the bottom front bolt out!! Make the investment!
I couldn't get the pulley off with a rental tool. There are 3 bolts, two in the front (top and bottom) and one in the back (top). It looks like there would be a 4th (back, bottom), but there isn't.

I managed to beat the pump into submission as as rusty and cheap the steel was it just shattered around the remains of the bolts.
So now I need to pull the lines and get some new bolts but as long as I get the parts and the rack and pinion cooperates I should have it back together tonight.
And yes I will get some pics now that the pump is out.

Ok major issue that I've been struggling with which put pics on hold for the time being.
Both lines into the rack and pinion are now snapped out and seized into the holes. I had to use a screwdriver to chisel off the retaining plate so i imagine the snapped off ends aren't much better.
Removed the lower radiator hose and going to use a propane torch to try and get the rust bond to snap loose. Unless someone has a better suggestion as I would rather not use heat but I don't see where I have much choice.

Already fubared it I'm afraid.
Bottom line out with threading a bolt into the line and tapping it around before it came out and took a small chunk of the bottom edge with it. Top line the bolt snapped off flush with the housing and after drilling into the line plug and threading another bolt in it refused to budge. Next I tried heading the area around the line with a propane torch with again no effect then in desperation i ground into the top of the housing to try and get some leverage behind the line fitting and still no effect. Even in the cut back portions you can see the corrosion has the entire thing surrounded and possibly the entire depth of the connection.
At this point I'm just going to replace the rack and avoid the headache and start fresh to go with the rest of the system.

Got the old rack and pinion out and tossed to the side. Trying to remove as much of the rust as I can from brackets and such before I put them back on.
With luck I can get the it back on the road by wednesday.
Oh and new lower steering shaft. I was already 99% sure but I removed all doubt when I pulled it and one axis is smooth as butter and the other axis feels like it has gravel for bearings.
